Learn How to Wakeboard This Summer



Wakeboarding is a water sport that requires one to ride a wakeboard through the water. Wakeboarding feels like a mixture of water skiing and surfing. The rider is pulled behind a boat at an approx speed of 18 - 25 miles per hour. Wakeboarding depends on water conditions, rider's weight and comfort speed.

• Initially, ask the boat driver to travel at a slow speed. A gradual increase in the speed will help the wakeboard pull itself outside the water with ease. The board requires a less amount of speed to spring out of the water. The speed of the board should be maintained at 14 - 18 miles per hour.
• Shorter length of the rope, allows the wakeboard to spring up easily. The rope length is to be maintained between 30 - 50 feet.
• In the water, position your body in a way to face the boat, while the wake board should be perpendicular to the boat. The wakeboard will readily whirl itself towards the boat, as you plane out of the water. The tip of the board needs to be maintained slightly above the water.
• While holding the handle on the rope, stretch your arms to place it on each side of the front knee. • Take your ankles in slowly, by bending your body to bring the knees closer to the chest. Lesser the distance between the body and the board, easier the beginning would be. Move your chest slightly upwards.
• Do not stress yourself. Keep a relaxed body.
• It is important to balance and distribute the weight equally over the wake board. While the boat pulls you out of the water, put 60 percent of your weight on the front foot and the remaining 40 percent on your back foot. This will help keep the board in control as the boat pulls you with an increasing speed through the water.
• Maintain the crouched position till you have attained a perfect balance over the wake board. Gradually move your upper body upwards to stand.
• Trying to move or stand at a faster speed could cause problems. Hence, move upwards very slowly. Once you are standing, shift the weight back.
• After standing, hold the rope handle low to have a better control.
In this way, we have crossed the beginner's stage to learn how to board. Once you gained a better control of the body on the wake board, it is easier to try different stunts. Make sure you wear a life jacket and follow safety measures, irrespective of how good you are at the sport.
